What is a standard page?
A standard page (SP) is a unit used in translation industry for calculating the length of the text. 1 SP = 1,800 characters including spaces (see MS Word/Tools/Number of characters including spaces).
What is Trados / CAT?
Trados is translation software which uses memory files created by original and translated texts. Phrases that have been translated before are automatically or mechanically transferred from this memory file into the new translation. An advantage is a discount that we provide for repetitions of these identical or very similar phrases. Translations performed using Trados are called Computer Aided Translations (CAT).
What is a certified translation?
Certified translations (= certified translations / official translations / translations with a stamp affixed) are translations intended particularly for state institutions and offices in the CzechRepublic and abroad. A certified translation is made as follows: we enclose the original or notarial copy of your document with the translation carried out by a certified translator and a clause with a stamp.
Who is a certified translator?
A certified translator (interpreter) is a translator appointed by the competent court. He or she is authorized to carry out certified translations, the authenticity of which is verified in the attached clause.
What is the difference between notarial verification and certification of a translation?
A notary verifies authenticity of a signature or a document; a certified translator certifies authenticity and correctness of a translation.
What kinds of proofreading do you provide?
We provide proofreading by a native speaker, by a lawyer and pre-print proofreading.We can also arrange proofreading by two translators (a common measure in Europe to eliminate inaccuracies).
When is proofreading necessary?
Proofreading is carried out with respect to the purpose of the translation. If you need the translation for a native speaker or for publication, we recommend proofreading by a native speaker. If you want to publish an advertising text, label, website text etc., we recommend also pre-print proofreading. Proofreading by a lawyer is recommended if the text is intended for lawyers. What is the difference between consecutive and simultaneous interpreting?
In consecutive interpreting, the interpreter translates a sentence after it has been uttered by the speaker. In simultaneous interpreting (mostly carried out in a cabin), the interpreter speaks concurrently with the speaker.
